Thank you so much for sending copies of “Bereaved Mother’s Heart”, I will make sure they go to good homes. As I said before I have used it in different ways with several clients including our bereavement support group. People have found it to be very inspiring indeed. I had one young woman come to me after the death of her twins – they died at one and two days old. She is an artist but was feeling completely stuck and unable to express herself through her art. I lent her the book and when she came back to me she had done several beautiful creative pieces for her babies. She said the book gave her permission to do so – and inspired her.
I also used the bear cards with a young girl who absolutely loved them, chose all the cross/angry ones to represent how she has been feeling the more relaxed ones to show how she hopes to feel in the future and then drew her own bears to take home.
Your resources make my job so much easier!

Working with children for the past seven years of my 15-year career in social work, I am continually challenged and excited about finding new and creative and ‘interesting to children’ ways of working.
With my numerous tool kits of St Luke’s resources up my sleeve I developed a board game with The Bear cards. Similar to other board games, there are spaces you land on where you pull a funny face, or tell a joke. Then there are the spaces you land on, where you select a Bear card from the pack and talk about a time you felt like that feeling.
I have found it to be incredibly non-threatening and yet a wonderful way to engage children in a less intrusive manner. It opens up frank and sometimes serious conversations about the things that are going on in little peoples’ lives. I love using so many of Innovative Resources’ materials. I find it a blessing to reach into my ‘tool box’ and know that no matter the child or situation there is something I can adapt and change to fit with each and every child.

A couple of years ago I purchased a set of ‘The 48 Bears’ cards and the ‘Strength Cards for Kids’ to use as a resource with our kindy aged children in my childcare centre, and the book ‘Stones… have feelings too’ for our OSHC Service. These have become our favourite resource tools – for both educators and our children alike !! (My staff won’t allow me to conclude a staff meeting unless we have done a ‘feel good’ excerise with the Bear or Strength Cards!)
